Dr. Truus Abbink
Dr. Truus Abbink is a molecular biologist, with expertise in RNA biology and translation regulation. She has worked at ALC since 2011 and has investigated several leukodystrophy disease mechanisms. She has profiled brain mRNA translation in VWM models and oversaw several preclinical studies. She identified ISR dysregulation as a molecular mechanism underlying VWM. These studies laid the foundation for the currently ongoing clinical trial. Also, as head of the molecular team at ALC, she supervises DNA diagnostics for VWM. In addition, she has contributed in finding and interpreting DNA variants in various genes associated with new leukodystrophies. Overall, these studies have supported improved diagnosis of leukodystrophy patients and contribute to understanding underlying disease mechanisms.
