Dr. Marc Engelen

Marc Engelen is a pediatric neurologist at Amsterdam University Medical Center, where he also provides care for adults with neurometabolic disorders. At the Amsterdam Leukodystrophy Center, his primary research focus lies in X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) and leukoencephalopathy with brainstem and spinal cord involvement and lactate elevation (LBSL). Over the past decade, he has led natural history studies for these disorders and contributed to the development of innovative (surrogate) outcome measures to support clinical trials. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Engelen serves as the local principal investigator for several clinical trials sponsored by pharmaceutical companies, aimed at advancing treatment options for leukodystrophies.
